PAINTING AND PRINTING WORKSHOPS WITH ARTSPEAK

Updated: Nov 4, 2022

You may have heard about our new Wednesday Club - Meet Me at 25 Prospect Street. This is another element of the work we do through ArtSpeak and is designed for you to have some fun, meet new people, get creative and develop some skills.

We're working with Resident Artist's Annette Waterfield and Jane Stockley to deliver some excellent participatory classes you might like to join over the next few weeks.

First up is painting -

Wednesday 9 November, 13:00 - 15:30

Using the work of Vincent Van Gogh as inspiration, this painting class will involve working with Acrylic paints, palette knives and brushes, to experiment with contrasting colours and abstract designs. The famous artwork you'll be exploring is Starry Night.

This workshop will be delivered by Annette Waterfield.

Programme of printing workshops delivered by Jane Stockley -

Beginning Wednesday 16 November, 13:00 - 15:30

Workshop 1 - Lines Patterns and Textures

A simple introduction to screen-printing and an experimental session to get a feel for the screen-printing process, making paper stencils to print lines, patterns and textures. You'll use different types of paper and collage to add depth and colour to your compositions. Suitable for all levels, no previous experience required.

Workshop 2 (23 November) - Screen-Printing on tote bags

You'll design and cut out a paper stencil, then using fabric inks will screen print onto a tote bag. Once dry and ironed they will be ready to use as a general shopping bag.

Workshop 3 (30 November) - Hand printed cards

Creating your own Christmas patterns and symbols, you'll have a design that you can draw onto a printing plate. Using lino inks and rollers you'll surface roll your printing plate and print multiple pictures. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with tissues and different papers to add different layers of colour and texture to your prints.

Workshop 4 (7 December) - Printing /Intaglio style

You'll be designing your own festive print which you can print up to make a bundle of cards, or individual prints that can be gifted at Christmas.

Using patterns and Christmas symbols as a primary source, you'll create a design which you'll draw on a printing plate.

This will be an intaglio print which means printing into the line, and will give the prints a profession look, which could be used for a card or a gift at Christmas.

Materials are included for all workshops and suitable for all levels of ability.
