Staying Active and Creative

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

At a time when a lot of us are having to stay indoors, potentially having to self isolate, and have no access to the things we enjoy, like the city's cultural scene and other social activities, it's important to keep our bodies and our minds active.

We've gathered a few resources that are available to help you beat the boredom, inspire, keep active, and stay creative during this time.

If anyone has any ideas or wants to share what they've been doing, send them to us at Artspeak@radfordcaregroup.org.uk or post on our facebook page @ArtSpeakNotts We also have a dedicated photography page @ArtSpeakPhoto

We hope to see you at one of activities soon, when things go back to normal!

CREATE TO CONNECT

This is a great initiative set up by 64 Million Artists. They're trialing a series of daily creative challenges for two weeks beginning on Monday 23 March. All you need to do is sign up to Do, Think and Share!

ARTS NEWS AND COLLECTIONS

Google's Arts and Culture website is a fantastic resource full of arts news, collections and venues to explore and learn more about. As well as discovering more about renowned Artists and pieces of work, you can take virtual tours, step inside and go behind the scenes at famous arts venues across the world. Visit the website now and enjoy exploring.

ARMCHAIR GALLERY

Whilst you can't get to museums and galleries it's also a perfect time to check out The Armchair Gallery App developed by City Arts. It's a free app available on iPads and Android tablets and lets you explore some of the collections and gallery spaces at venues such as, Chatsworth House, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Newstead Abbey and The Lowry. This was originally developed for people living with Dementia but can be accessed and enjoyed by all. More details for how to download here

NOTTINGHAM PLAYHOUSE DISTANT CHOIR AND DANCE SESSIONS

Whilst The Nottingham Playhouse Choir and Dance Groups can't meet, their tutors have filmed short sessions for anyone to do whilst they're at home. These are available to view on our Facebook page - @ArtSpeakNotts

LIVE STREAMING OF CONCERTS

With music events and concerts being cancelled there are various orchestral performances being streamed online. (Please check the times as streamings are taking place in America)

EXERCISING AT HOME

The original keep fit queen of the 80's is making a come back and will be providing workout routines to do at home via BBC Breakfast. There are also plenty of fitness instructors available to view on YouTube that you can follow along with. The This Girl Can Campaign suggest a few ideas for workouts to try at home including: Chair tricep dips, table top press ups, living room wall sits, and milk bottle russian twists. More ideas can be found here

NATIONAL TRUST FREE ACCESS

Of course nothing beats some fresh air, if you're able to get out and about, and for the time being National Trust Parks will be granting FREE access to all their parks and gardens. Please check their website for regular updates as this changes on a daily basis
